Weekend Plans Canceled
The plan was for me to head up to Minneapolis yesterday to attend the Midwest Mountaineering Outdoor Expo, spend the night with Gordon and Deb, then head over to Wisconsin’s Namekagon Barrens with Gordon today to view, photograph and videotape the Sharptail Grouse there. As I was getting ready yesterday morning, I had a couple of inexplicable vertigo episodes. I went ahead and packed the car, had lunch and then headed out. Partway across Rochester, I had more extreme vertigo. It looked like the horizon had suddenly shifted 45 degrees and I was feeling very disoriented. I turned around and came home, knowing that the 70 mile trip to the cities, dealing with downtown traffic, etc. were definitely out of the question.
I have no idea what caused the vertigo. Pat says; “too much time on the computer”. I do know that I slept most of the rest of the afternoon yesterday and still got about 10-11 solid hours of sleep last night. Very unusual.
So far today, no more episodes. It’s sunny outside. It would have been perfect for what we’d planned for this morning
No new Sharptail photos this year. No video. All that will have to wait til next year now. ![]()

Bummer, Larry. Disappointing, but better to be safe. Get outside — you’ll feel better.

Oh wow Larry….that’s scary! I’ll definiately be praying for you!
Hope to hear that you’re doing much better, very soon! Sorry you didn’t get to take your trip, but really better safe than sorry!

Thanks Barb and Cindy. Sunday and Monday, I continued to have occasional attacks. Today was pretty miserable — wave after wave of vertigo! It was difficult to do much of anything. Now, I’ve found that this is likely due to a “bug that’s going around” and others have had the symptoms last for weeks!
And, we’re supposed to be leaving on a 3 week road trip to Tucson and back starting the end of next week. If this keeps up, I don’t know how I’ll manage that.
